Second Year Complete

Good news - I am alive!  And done with second year.  With work hours around 70 a week and spending the last 21 days working without a break, I am so excited to say I am done with second year and good riddance.  At this point when people tell me they want to go to medical school my face is pretty flat and I wonder why?!  I hope my perspective changes in the next couple of years as my paycheck increases because now as I log my duty hours I continually think, should have been a social worker.  Or maybe a psychologist.  I don't know, all I know is I'm not meant for the crazy work hours/nights/weekends.  I like the job, but it's not meant to be my life.  The good news is third year brings a transition to outpatient psychiatry, more therapy and almost no nights and weekends.   The few after hours shifts I'll have are almost all compensated.  The days of spending 24 to 30 hours in the hospital non-stop are over.  Hallelujah.  I could never be a surgeon.

To celebrate, I booked a spa day Monday at La Therapie.  I'm looking forward to taking some time to relax and slow down.  Also to celebrate third year, we actually have no patient contact next week!  Ha.  Just lot of orientations to outpatients clinics at Duke and VA.

Okay, enough talk.  Let me show your pictures of what I've been up to with my little time off of work!

Mother's Day Dinner at my parent's

Aaron & I served panzanella with fresh mozzarella and basil, grilled wings with homemade sauce, sweet potato fries and for dessert, blueberry crumb with ice cream.
Summer weddings continued.  Aaron and Kris looking proper!

Congratulations Brian and Amanda!

I traveled to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen with my family.
Dad couldn't be persuaded to venture out of America and stayed home.

Playa Del Carmen

I loved Playa del Carmen.
So chill, so casual, so perfect.
